The Helen O’Grady Drama Academy began in Perth , Western Australia in 1979.It is of international status and in South Africa alone there are 9 branches with 4,000 children attending each week.I have now been involved with the Academy for over 15 years,6 years in London,UK and 9 years in Johannesburg.The Academy has gone from strength to strength and we now have 600 students attending classes in 14 locations.The Academy has expanded with the help of my highly skilled, caring, enthusiastic teachers , Catherine Brooks,Venetia Herbst, Stephanie Nel, Hilliary Meikle and Cindy Hammond.

Fun in The Sun!

The Lower Primary classes (age 5- 8yrs) at the Helen O'Grady Drama Academy love dressing up . Each week is different theme and this week they get a chance to go to the beach and have fun in the sun! The improvisations help to improve their self confidence, social and communication skills by encouraging constant interaction with each other!

Race to the Pole !

Kensington Upper Primary students really put their drama skills to test when acting out an improvisation which took place in the South Pole . Scott of the Antartic and his team set off to claim the South Pole for his country only to find the Norwegians had got their first. The students had to imagine being in the freezing cold, blizzards and harsh conditions but urged on by Scott to reach the pole. Faced with defeat and exhaustion , they collapse at the summit

At The Car Wash!

Sandton Lower Primary classes rolled up their shirts and practised "cleaning cars" with their sponges, buckets and cleaning materials in the structured improvisation "Whose Idea Was It". An important part of the drama programme is getting children used to using props and multi tasking during improvisations.

Helen O'Grady kids are now becoming regular extras in the Mnet series "The Wild".All the kids who attend the Helen O'Grady Drama Academy Johannesburg Nort East join our casting agency Take 10 Casting for free. Due to the performance skills that are taught at the drama Academy, many of our children are cast in films, TV series and adverts!!
